Main goals of IST:
- Promotion of building free, independent, democratic, European Ukraine
- Support of fundamental social, economical and political reforms in Ukraine
- Forming of national bourgeoisie and strong middle class of private owners
- Strengthening of local self-governance system in Ukraine
- Establishment of partnership between authorities and business circles
- Forming of market ideology in wide society groups and national elite of Ukraine
- Development of innovative informational resources
Spheres of interests: economics, politics, international relations, national security, local government, 3rd sector, education, information field.
The key activities:
- organizing and holding interactive workshops, roundtables, presentations;
- preparing of analytical materials, political and economical forecasts, commentaries and other intellectual products;
- organizing study visits of power executives and business structures to states with stable democracy;
- realizing “public relations” of individuals, organizations, companies, cities, regions;
- advisory work on current and strategic economical and political issues;
- publishing of journal “Economical Annals-ÕÕ²”;
- forming and supporting Internet-resources of Institute, cities and companies of Ukraine;
- public opinion poll etc.
IST performed:
- 500 round tables;
- 30 international and 220 regional seminars;
- 20 research & practical conferences;
- 50 public opinion polls;
- 52 web-resources, which are parts of the Internet-holding of Institute of Society Transformation;
- 120 issues of Journal “Economic Annals-XXI” are prepared and published;
IST prepared and issued 12 monographs, namely:
- Ways of introduction of innovation-investment model of development in the Ukrainian cities (under support of Embassy of Latvia in Ukraine), 2008.
- Entering NATO is a strategic choice for Ukraine (under support of Ministry of education and sciences of Ukraine), 2008.
- EU and local self-government: Visegrad cities experience and Ukrainian prospect (under support of the International Visegrad Fund), 2008.
- Partnership for security: the experience of NATO member countries and Ukrainian perspective (under support of Royal Norwegian Embassy in Ukraine), 2007
- Administrative-territorial reform in Ukraine: the optimal model (under support of Embassy of Finland in Ukraine), 2007.
- Finland experience of local self-governance – for Ukrainian cities (under support of the Embassy of Finland), 2006.
- Sevastopol on its way of economic and administrative-territorial reform, 2005.
- Development cooperation between Ukrainian and Polish cities (under support of the program PAUCI), 2005.
- Relationships between Ukraine and NATO: economical aspects (under support of the NATO information and documentation Centre in Ukraine), 2003.
- Creating relationships between local authorities and business circles of Ukraine and Poland (under support of the Poland Embassy), 2002.
- Relationships between local authorities and non-state organizations as a guarantee of intensification of democratic reforms in Ukraine (under support of the MATRA ÊÀÐ program), 2001.
- The way of exporting into Ukraine (under support of the Brazilian Embassy), 2000.
An important direction of IST’s activity is organizing study visits of Ukrainian power executives to states with stable democracy. IST organized and held: 2 training visits of state authorities to Brookings Institute of USA (in 1994 and in 1995), study visit of Ukrainian Mayors (10 persons) to the Netherlands in 1999 (under the support of the Netherlands Foreign Ministry), study visit of Ukrainian Mayors (9 persons) to the Canada in 2000, study visit of Ukrainian power executives (12 persons) to the Poland in 2001 (keeping within the limits of the program “Co-operation initiative of Poland – America – Ukraine”; official visit of Ukrainian Mayors and the chiefs of business (23 persons) to the Poland in 2005 (under the program PAUCI). In June 2006 will take place organized by IST study visit of Ukrainian Mayors (10 persons) to The Sweden (under the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Ukraine). In September 2006 IST has organized the study visit of Ukrainian Mayors (11 persons) to The Finland (under support of the Embassy of Finland in Ukraine and Ministry for Interior affairs of Finland). In November, 2007 IST performed study visit of 13 Ukrainian Mayors to The Kingdom of Norway (under support of the Government of Norway).
The results of study visits were positive. An experience and effectiveness of working with Ukrainian power executives afforded the IST to create Municipal Advisory Bureau for the bodies of local authorities at the beginning of 2000 enlisting the support of Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Netherlands. Over 250 Ukrainian cities work within the Bureau at the moment.
